A day before our short retreat we hosted Pat Coyle, the Communications Offices for the Irish province. Her dynamic approach, and the glimpse she gave us into “into the journalist’s head” were greatly appreciated. Through numerous examples we progressively understood more clearly that knowing something academically doesn’t necessarily guarantee successful communication. (more…)
One of the last conferences before starting the retreat was ‘in house’.
Nick Austin shared with us his work on one of the essential tools of Ignatian Spirituality, the Examen of Conscience. His main concern is how to find the balance between reflection on spiritual experience, representing a more passive and interior element, and practice as an active side of the spirituality.
On Thursday 8th of May our guest was Gerry O’Hanlon SJ. As a systematic theologian, Gerry shared with us some of his thoughts about the Church today, in Ireland and elsewhere. His down to earth insights helped us to broaden our perspective on the Church and its mission in the world. He set Pope Francis’s approach to reform in a clearer light. We felt strengthened in our belief that the Spirit continues to be at work in the Church as a whole, and renewed in our desire to attend to the Spirit in our lives and concrete situations and missions.
