Last week we were blessed with the visit of Antoine Kerhuel, Fr. General’s Assistant for Western Europe. He described how the beginning of Pope Francis’s pontificate has inspired the Society of Jesus to follow Ignatius’s charism even more faithfully, and encouraged Jesuits in their efforts to live ‘for the greater glory of God’. In addition, we had prepared for him a list of questions: all those that can possibly go through the mind of a Tertian! Answering these with his characteristic patience and gentle wisdom, addressing the process of merging Provinces to the question of vocation promotion, the situation in Syria to the challenge of leading a balanced lifestyle when there are many apostolic demands, Antoine enlightened us on many aspects of the life of the Society today. We benefitted from his knowledge – and from his sense of humour!
An inspiration
Show, O Lord, thy ways to me,
that teach me thy paths.
Direct me in thy truth, and teach me;
for thou art God my Saviour.
