Petr was born in Prague in 1972, and he is member of the Czech province of the Jesuits. After university studies – Czech letters and art education at the pedagogical faculty of Charles University in Prague – he entered the Society of Jesus in 1997. He undertook philosophical as well as theological studies in Bratislava and Rome and worked one year in the Czech section of the Vatican Radio. Petr was ordained a priest in 2006 and ministered as a chaplain in Prague for 5 years. For the last 3 years, he has been in Olomouc as an administrator of the academic (university) parish. He also served as a university chaplain – doing pastoral care throughout the Czech Republic as the national coordinator – as well as the Jesuit promoter of vocations.
Before coming to tertianship, Stjepan worked as treasurer and minister of a retreat house and served also as a chaplain priest in Opatija. He was ordained to the priesthood ten years ago. He entered the Society of Jesus immediately after high school – Archbishop’s Classical Gymnasium in Zagreb – and his novitiate was in Split. He spent two years studying philosophy at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb before going to regency. During this period, he worked with the Jesuit Refuge Service (JRS) in Sarajevo and was present during a short period of crisis in Kosovo – that is, Skopje in Macedonia. Four years of theology were studied in Zagreb, and – after ordination as a priest in 2004 – he ministered for three years as a chaplain at a parish in Split. After this extensive training, he received his licentiate in Rome in pastoral theology.
The youngest of the tertian group comes from Slovakia. This past July, he finished his work as Socius to the Provincial – a role he had for last two years. Peter was ordained to the priesthood in 2009 in Slovakia. After his ordination, he undertook varieties of pastoral ministries in his country such as university chaplaincy, vocation promotion, and work with youth. Among his many hobbies, and there are indeed many, he is well known around the house for his bee keeping abilities: he brought us a jar of home-made Jesuit honey. He also enjoys cycling, swimming and gardening… He likes humour very much and is always quick to make a joke.
Balint is from Budapest, Hungary and entered the Society of Jesus in 1997. His philosophical studies were in Munich, Germany. After two years of regency in the Jesuit high school in Miskolc, he studied theology and religious education in Budapest. After this, he continued with his STL (licentiate in sacred theology) studies at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. Five years ago he participated in the Spiritual Direction Practicum in Berkeley, California; since that time, he returned every year and continues to be involved in the formation of spiritual directors. Before tertianship, he was leading the high school campus ministry in Miskolc and was entrusted the formation of young Jesuits in Hungary.
