Mourad finished his university studies on psychology in Damascus and then spent 9 months in a L’Erche community. After this period, he decided it was time to enter the Society of Jesus and commenced his novitiate in 1996. The noviciate was Egypt but his theology and philosophy done in Paris. He received a Master in Counselling and Spirituality from St Paul’s University in Canada. After this period, he returned to Syria and was ordained in 2009. From this period until 2014, he served as the project director for the Jesuit Refugee Services in Aleppo.
